Uplizd’s Accelerated Formulation Design service is built on a simple premise: a partner should not have to spend two to three development quarters — or longer — and grams of precious drug substance to discover which excipient system its molecule actually wants.
For Uplizd’s partners, this converts formulation development from an open-ended empirical search into a focused confirmatory exercise.
Why it exists
The empirical route is expensive by construction.
Solving this empirically is expensive. Those axes combine into hundreds of plausible conditions, each of which must be made and analyzed at high concentration using material that may not yet exist in quantity. Practical screens therefore sample the space sparsely, and often miss the viscosity–stability trade-off until late — when a change is disruptive.

Material is the scarcest input
Purified drug substance is usually the most expensive thing an early programme owns. Screening effort should be concentrated on a prioritized set of conditions, not spent on a broad, unguided matrix.
Rank, and say how confident you are
A candidate list without confidence is a preference. Every candidate carries its own confidence, so prioritisation is a stated judgement rather than an implicit one.
One dataset, not a pile of reports
A single, structured, statistically coherent dataset is what later comparability, scale-up and lifecycle changes actually rest on.
Define the space deliberately
A design space that was chosen — rather than whatever a sparse screen happened to touch — is defensible when it appears in a CMC section years later.
Fully specified, or it is not a deliverable
Every candidate states its excipients, concentrations and pH, and ships with bench-level SOPs. If the laboratory has to interpret it, the work is not finished.
